Today began just like any other... The alarm went off and we began to get ready for breakfast. Unfortunately, D'Elise remembered that she forgot to take her malaria medication the night before. So, she took it in the morning instead. This lead to her becoming ill and unable to go to school today. Lisa and Emma headed to Brode's and picked up the usual for an upset stomach: Gatorade, pedalite, ginger ale, and saltines. Dr. John was not far behind us and explained that he could get a prescription from their pharmacy, without a prescription. He got an anti-nausea medication that seemed to do the trick.
While the rest of us headed to school our thoughts were with D'Elise for the remainder of the day. Today was easier at the school as we were all beginning to fall into the routine. In standard III class the students took a math quiz on multiplication. To Lisa's horror the children tried to cheat every time the teacher turned his back. It was common place for the students to get up out of their seat and travel to a neighbor to get a "pencil." Sadly, many of these students do not care about getting an education. They will come to school because their parents send them but, there is an examination that many will never pass to get into high school. For Language Arts, the students reviewed their spelling words. Students were called to the front of the room and had to spell which ever word Mr. Yaxcal gave them. After spelling, Lisa read the story The Tree of Life. The students loved to hear me read in my accent and begged for me to read again and again. In science, we learned about the various parts of the flower and their essential function to its life. The students took down notes and drew a picture of the flower that they then labeled. Drawing is a skill to them, as they do not have the resources to simply print out any picture they would like.

Back at the Bull Frog we were all excited to see D'Elise sitting at the table with Dr. John. She was feeling much better after the medication and Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup. We all sat around the table and shared our day. Our conversations are always filled with so much laughter and support from each other.
D'Elise and Lisa took dinner to their room and settled in for the night watching Ratatouille on our flat screen tv.
