Over The River and Through The Woods.... Literally.

After yet another amazing Bull Frog breakfast of French Toast and Orange Juice, we set off for school.  This morning we had a school wide assembly that had been delayed from Monday due to rain.  One class lead the assembly in prayers, national anthem, pledge, and hymns.  It was Garifuna Awareness day, and all of the teachers including the UNF Interns sported a lovely yellow, black, and white ribbon.

Today D'Elise had the opportunity of teaching two subjects. The first subject D'Elise taught was language arts. She helped her students review for their exam that they will be taking next week. D'Elise reviewed the sounds of the ten letters that the students have been learning. The students used their language arts books to practice writing their letter C's. D'Elise also had the opportunity to teach social studies. The students learned about the different types of families.

In Standard III Lisa lead a unique discussion about tourism in Belize. The Standard III students also had the opportunity to walk to the University of Belize to a special needs emporium.  The walk took us over the river and through the woods... literally.  The students had fun talking with Miss Lisa along the way.  When we got there (25 minutes later),  the students were able to visit various booths that each highlighted a different disorder.  Before we left to come back, the students were each given an orange.  Miss Lisa had the opportunity to share the story of Hansel and Gretel with the children.  (Due to that fact you would have been able to follow us all the way back to school by orange peels!) The students had a great time pointing out all of the houses their family members lived in as we passed.  After lunch the students finished their discussion on tourism in Belize.  They also participated in art, which is also taught by Mr. Yaxcal.  The art lesson had the children drawing leaves they had collected and coloring them in.

After a great day at the schools, we set out in search of pizza.  We stumbled upon Pasquale's, an Italian Restaurant that satisfied our hunger.
